Is alcoholism hereditary?

I get almost all of my genes from my dad and he had alcoholism really bad and also almost everyone else on my dads side. I'm thinking it's not really alcoholism thats hereditary but it's the addictive personality, and i have one. Does that mean if I start to drink I'll probably become an alcoholic? I'm pretty much planning to not drink, but i dont know if that's gonna happen cause I don't have much will power, like if i say "im not gonna eat that chocolate" i end up eating it. So should i just not drink at all or can i drink a little bit?
